The Talk of Troy

Just in time for National Poetry Month, Troy University’s English Department and the honor society Sigma Tau Delta have hosted a poetry reading, where everyone is invited to participate. Troy Public Radio’s Adam Kennedy II read a poem and also reports!And, TROY students aren’t the only ones celebrating National Poetry Month. As producer Conner Howell reports, a member of the University Administration won an award in a state-wide competition and was featured in a program that aired on Alabama Public Television.

As Producer Jaelanne Thomas tells us, Dean of the Sorrell College Judson Edwards is hosting a new business podcast, The Double Dome.And, TROY’s Dothan campus holds their annual Heritage Week each Spring. And after being sidelined due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event is back in full-swing, as Host Marissa Lacey reports.

A new memorial has been dedicated to Troy University Chief Academic Officer Fred Davis on the main campus, as Host Marissa Lacey reports.And, two students on TROY’s Dothan campus earned honors in the inaugural Freedom Speaks competition, held on Martin Luther King Day. This week, Troy University is hosting its own version of the popular Food Network show, Chopped. But this time, it’s groups of faculty and staff who are given the mystery ingredients.And, Troy University presents Family Math Night! Parents can participate to be more informed on what their children are learning, which includes new ways to do math.

Troy University’s Theatre and Dance Department is staging a production of the beloved Broadway musical, "Newsies!"And, in memory of Legendary Band Director John M. Long, Troy University Concert and Symphonic bands dedicated this year's annual spring concert to him.

Since 2013, this program has been produced by student interns like Host Marissa Lacey. And now, for TROY Public Radio’s 45th anniversary, we’re visiting some of the first student producers to find out how The Talk of TROY became what it is today.

Troy University’s Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery is offering visitors a chance to meet Civil Rights Icon Rosa Parks. Or as Producer Conner Howell reports, a very convincing portrayal of Parks.And, Campus Kitchens, a national initiative to repurpose dining food to feed the hungry, dissolved in 2019. But, Troy University’s office of civic engagement, which partnered previously with Campus Kitchens, is working to continue their mission in the Troy area. And as Garrett Sanders reports, students are still a vital part of distributing the meals.

Ms. Troy University 2022 has been crowned! But it’s not all glitz and glamour. Being pageant queen comes with important duties as well, as Producer Jaelanne Thomas reports.And, we listen back to one of our favorite stories about TROY's army of Chinese warrior statues on the main campus.
